We will be meeting at the Peoria Community Center (Room: Twin Buttes A) and look forward to seeing you all there!
Book Club
AACO Book Club - We're beginning our new book! The Crimson Field by Rosie Malek-Younan is a story about a young woman as she lives through the Simele massacre. You might think that a book about a massacre is too gloomy, but this true story will take you through many emotions. You will laugh and smile as well as cry and be filled with anger, but that's what makes a good book! August 7th is the day that this book remembers. Together we ought to honor the character of our ancestors; their strong faith, their resilience, their bravery, and their ability to love one another in the midst of adversity.
On Wednesday, August 16th at 6 PM at a home in Peoria we will have our first of multiplemeetings to discuss the book. In our first meeting we ask that readers get through the first 100 pages or as far as you can up till there.
Non-Readers are also welcome to attend. We encourage everyone to come, even if you don't plan on reading the book. The purpose of the book club is not to just read books, but have meaningful discussions and learn how we as individuals and as a group can improve how we live as Assyrians today. This is something you can participate or listen in on regardless if you have read the book or not.
You can find the book on Amazon by searching "Rosie Malek-Yonan's The Crimson Field" available for purchase, new and used. Stock is limited and shipping times are long so do not delay.

Book Club Discussion
Join us Thursday, July 27th at 6PM for the continued discussion on The Path to Assyria by Afram Yakoub. The book is available on Amazon prime. The book is about Assyrian activist, Afram Yakoub’s take on what we as people can do to renew our nation. Even if you don’t finish the book that’s okay because we will be meeting every two weeks until we get through the book before reading the next one. You can also listen to the Assyrian podcast episode featuring Afram to learn more about him before attending our meeting. Just search the Assyrian Podcast episode 148. The meeting will be held at the residence of Mikhial Mikho, Board of Director at AACO and Culture and Education chair. His address will be provided upon securing your RSVP by messaging us directly.
About the Author.
Afram Yakoub is an Assyrian born in Qamishli, Syria. Afram has been an Assyrian activist for over 20 years; his activism leading to being President of the Assyrian Federation of Sweden. Since leaving the position, Afram has written about his experiences and learnings, with the book Vägen till Assyrien - en uppmaning till nationell förnyelse published in Sweden last year (Tigris Press ISBN: 978-9198154160), before being published in English late 2020, titled The Path to Assyria - A Call For National Renewal (Tigris Press ISBN: 978-9198154160)
